Adama in Olive green and Brown

I spent the last 3 days trying to bring the bag sketch above to life, so after cutting, ironing, gluing, trimming, coating, sewing, pining, changing machines, worrying, repeatedly asking myself who I was kidding and a couple of tears later followed by Tayo's gentle prodding and serious talk of how the bags look fantastic and how I am being too hard on myself Adama in olive green and Adama in brown with orange motifs were finally finished. Know that I am not fully convinced about the "OKness" of the bags but they will have to do for now, plan to revisit the design in the nearest future though. Check them out

Adama in olive Green

Adama in Brown with orange motifs

In all honesty, if not for the piping that didn't sew well (which affected the base which also affected the overall structure) or the top zips which are not properly tucked under the flap, the bags "on face value" look fantastic and the few people that saw them offered to take them off me...at a price of course. I have decided to use the olive green piece myself as a show piece and the brown piece has already been requested for.

Grommet and Studs!

See Fati in Red. This blue version is fierce what with the eyelets, rivets and laced up front and back, though it looks very bohemian it can be as serious or as playful as you make it to be. The leather used is suede and very smooth to the touch. Like Fati in Red the interior of this blue version is dyed red and it also has phone pouches, zipped compartment as well as a zip and a flap to keep contents away from curious fingers. Like all Gidan Nodza bags this bag is made with hand dyed canvas, locally sourced leather and hand dyed lining.

Circles and Tassels!

This bag is named after my friend Fati, we met as Jambites (freshmen) in the university some "centuries" ago and we've been friends ever since, we've been through a lot together, shared soooo many shoes, bags, tops and even weave-ons...lol, though we are now miles apart and busy juggling life I know that I can always count on her to be there... whenever. I love this shoulder bag and I know it's a bag that would be enjoyed, like Fati this piece is unique, stylish and one of a kind, the shape is hobo like but with out the serious slouching, like my friend this bag will be there for you when you need it by being flexible to your needs, the size of the bag will guarantee that it can be a school bag, office bag, laptop bag, a quick stop bag and more. The colours are subtle and the turquoise blue lining excites the interior of the bag. Bag has phone pouches, zipped compartment as well as a zip and a flap to keep contents away from curious fingers. Like all Gidan Nodza bags this bag is made with hand dyed canvas, locally sourced leather and hand dyed lining.

I finished these bags a week ago and just got round to posting these pictures. I love the deep red leather and navy blue canvas combo. Both bags are sturdy with side snaps to further change the shape/outlook of the bags. Will post more pictures of the bags asap soooo check back soon to really appreciate the bags.

Wrist strap and Wrist Band

If you’ve read my very brief new year’s resolution post you will recall that one of my new year resolutions was to procrastinate less…aha and in that vein I bring to you 3 wrist bands/straps that I completed a few hours ago. Tayo had long advised me that instead of throwing my scraps of leather and canvas I could use them to make amongst other things the 3 pieces I am showing you today and of course because I am the queen of procrastination I am finally getting round to doing them…and I must admit that I am glad I finally did cos they rock! Whatcha think?

Another first...

Tayo's mum gave me her old torn PVC wallet to help her fix and I decided to make her a new wallet instead since I had this very soft reddish brown leather laying around. I made this wallet in less than 3 hours... this is the fastest piece I have done yet. The leather looks like it was dyed using the scrunch dyeing technique, lovely! Since this was my first trial at making wallet (although Tayo has been urging me to give it a trial for as long as I can remember *sigh* what can I say... I am the queen of procrastination) I made it very simple with just slots for cash/paper notes and snap buttons to close. Now that I have made one I cannot wait to make more sooo keep your eyes peeled for more wallets and much more.
